3M Homeowner Survey Shows Keen Interest in Eco-Friendly Materials and Building Practices

“Many homeowners are now inspired to choose building materials that both serve their conventional purpose and have a positive impact on the environment, ”said Josh orman, 3M Industrial Mineral Products Division, Senior Manager of Business Development. “It’s encouraging to see consumers and 3M take action to improve our environment.

The majority of homeowners surveyed – 74% – agree that using green building materials would have a big impact on the environment, and 70% plan to buy green materials for their next renovation.

These owners not only find green products appealing, but they also follow the advice of others to influence their purchases; for example, 52% of homeowners surveyed said they would more actively consider green materials if their friends and family incorporated green options into their lives.

“Essentially, what owners say and do has a huge impact on those in their circle of influence,” Orman said. “Consider the positive ripple effect of homeowners making green choices that educate and influence their friends and family in the process. “

The owners most believe in recycling and waste reduction as the main activity that will have a positive impact on the environment. Eliminating single-use plastics, using renewable energy, reducing air pollution, and selecting energy-efficient products round out the top five.

The Home Renovation Study is an independent study commissioned by 3M to understand levels of interest in green building materials and whether the industry is meeting homeowners’ needs. The study took place from March to April 2021, on the other side United States.
