The global market (demand) over the next 20 years for infrastructure is estimated at $ 65 trillion. And the world is looking for good construction managers. The construction industry reflects the development of a nation. The Nepalese construction sector would contribute around 10-11 percent of its GDP and use around 35 percent of the budget. It provides work for millions of people. Nepal is rapidly developing its infrastructure. There are currently 22 National Pride projects. According to 2013 data, there are 325 Class A, 374 Class B, 1347 Class C and about 15,000 Class D contractors. Nepalese contractors have perfected themselves with the latest construction technology and saved huge sums of money. money by bringing in foreign entrepreneurs.

Random construction work, however, created several problems in Nepal. Investing in large infrastructure projects is essential for a country to achieve long-term growth and sustainable development. Delay is a major problem in the construction industry. The Melamchi drinking water supply project, for example, was launched in December 2000 with the aim of completing it in 2007, but it is still unfinished. The World Bank (WB) withdrew its investment from the project in 2005 due to delays. In a report published by the Commission of Inquiry into Abuse of Power, in 2075 BS, 1,032 projects were neither completed nor extended.

There is a shortage of skilled labor in the construction sector in Nepal. Those who have received training tend to fly abroad for better wages and opportunities. The Federation of Nepalese Contractors Associations (FCAN) has listed some of the following construction issues: prequalification procedure, lack of balanced and standard tender dossier, government rules and regulations, approval of lowest bidder , taxation system, late payment, inflation, brain drain and unavailability of construction materials.

The Technical Audit carried out by the National Vigilance Center in 2074/2075 recorded 285 non-conformities related to construction projects. This is faulty construction, improper storage of building materials, lack of a quality assurance plan, negligence of the consultant and site engineer, poor execution construction work and a lack of planning and preparation for the day-to-day work on the part of the contractor. Other shortcomings include the lack of practice of obtaining approval of the construction drawing, an error in the estimate by the engineer, workers not using safety tools, the contractor trying to do trade-offs on labor and equipment and lack of supervision by the project manager.

Construction management studies deal with worker health and safety, ethical issues in the construction industry, waste materials standard, familiarization with construction equipment, tools and procedures. construction planning and planning techniques, application of value engineering in the procurement of materials, contracting procedures, facility layout and layout of works, project quality control , quality assurance and total quality management. It also deals with financial management, risk management, annual procurement plan, environmental management plan, implementation of building regulations, codes and other regulations.

As a construction manager, one must be trained and acquire the skills necessary to plan, control and coordinate construction projects. It is also necessary to make the best use of people and resources. These skills do not develop overnight. Trainings, workshops, seminars and practices are needed. The construction of roads, airports, housing and other projects requires well-trained construction managers.

There is a need to improve performance through knowledge in the construction industry, where people, materials, machines, money and management work together to build a facility. Only a construction manager can improve quality control to reduce the potential for defects and poor workmanship, maximize resource efficiency through the purchase of labor, materials and equipment, and play an important role in the implementation of various operations through effective and efficient control of planning, design, estimation. , procurement and construction throughout the process.

It is good that masters courses in construction management are taught in various universities in Nepal. The thesis and work on construction management issues can help relevant stakeholders in government and non-government agencies to solve various construction management issues.
