At a time when people have lost their livelihoods due to COVID-19, rising prices are a big burden on them, TN BJP chairman said in a statement.
Tamil Nadu BJP President L. Murugan said on Friday that the DMK government was responsible for the rising cost of basic goods and building materials, especially cement, in the state and asked the minister chief MK Stalin to take measures to curb the rise in prices.
“At a time when people have lost their livelihoods due to COVID-19, rising prices are a big burden on them. Rising prices for building materials such as cement and others, and rising prices for products such as cooking oil, basic necessities and vegetables have placed a heavy burden on the population, ”he said. Mr. Murugan said in a statement. He said it was wrong that the prices of all products rose during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Blaming the state’s DMK government for the sudden price increase, Murugan said, “Within a month of taking office, the prices of many products have gone up. Cement prices, in particular, climbed very quickly to 520 yen per bag against 370 yen per bag. It’s shocking.
The prices of other building materials have also increased, he said. “A unit of m-sable that was 5,000 has gone down to 6,000; the cost of gravel dropped from 3,600 yen to 4,200 yen per unit; TMT bar prices have gone from 18,000 yen to 75,000 yen per tonne, ”he said.
Mr Murugan also said that under the previous DMK regime, the cost of building materials increased. But then the chief minister, Mr. Karunanidhi, threatened to nationalize the cement factories, after which the prices fell, he said. Mr. Murugan wondered why Mr. Stalin had not taken such a step now.
