Gilbane construction company was selected by Johnston Public Schools in Rhode Island to provide construction management services at risk for the district’s capital improvement program, which includes the construction of a new early childhood center and a new primary school, as well as the “like new” renovation of Lycée Johnston.
Designed by the SLAM Collaborative, with Colliers Project Leaders as the Owner’s Project Leader, the new Early Years Center will house all of Johnston’s Pre-K and Kindergarten classes in a facility designed to nurture young learners. Similarly, the new elementary school will house the district’s first through fourth grade students, consolidating the four existing elementary facilities into one, organized into learning neighborhoods and featuring spaces for art, music, STEAM, media, physical education and student support.
As part of the program, Johnston High School will undergo renovations to science rooms and improve spaces for academic collaboration, enhancing the school’s educational offering. In addition, selective renovations, including essential upgrades to building systems, entrance improvements for security and aesthetics, and a complete renovation of the culinary and sports locker room spaces will be part of the work ahead. .
“Our team is thrilled to partner with the City of Johnston on this important capital improvement program and help bring the community’s vision for 21st Century learning facilities to life,” said Steve Duvel, Senior Vice President and Head of Gilbane’s Rhode Island Business Unit. “Our proven past experience working with Colliers and SLAM will help bring this project to a safe conclusion, with the well-being of students and the community remaining paramount throughout.”
