UTICA, NY – Hayner Hoyt Corporation has established an endowed scholarship at the University of Utica for construction management students.

The Hayner Hoyt Corporation Construction Management Scholarship will be awarded to a registered full-time student who plans to major in construction management. Student must be in good standing with a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to female students and those recognized as historically underrepresented.

Students can apply during their first full year of study. The $5,000 annual award is renewable.

“The construction industry has long struggled with diversity, and we want to help fix that,” said Hayner Hoyt President Jeremy Thurston, a 2000 graduate of the University of Utica and president-elect of its Board of Directors, in a press release.

The University of Utica’s construction management program combines the study of management techniques with real-world learning opportunities. The program has a 100% placement rate.

“As a woman in the industry, I love it,” said Audrey Cross, assistant professor of construction management at the University of Utica. “The daily juggling of a thousand moving parts and then seeing something on paper become reality is truly amazing. There is also a strong sense of pride when you walk past a building and are able to say that you helped build it.

Recent projects include replacing the roof of the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University, the University of Utica Science Center, and various projects at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.
