This week, we discuss the values, merit, and benefits of construction management degrees at IUPUI. Guests this week are: Bill White, Senior Lecturer and Architect and has been teaching for over 13 years. Dan Koo is an Associate Professor and Acting Program Director, and is a Chartered Civil Engineer. Marvin Johnson is the Laboratory Technician in the Construction Management Department and has taught for 13 years. Allen Galloway – Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board and a member of the Board for 15 years.

The Construction Management program has been developed to provide our students with a solid foundation knowledge in the areas of construction contract administration and specifications; construction field operations; construction costs and tenders; construction planning and project control; construction law and ethics; construction safety and inspection; monitoring and control of construction projects; and the management of construction projects. Additional courses include math, science, economics, technical writing, oral communications, and business.

Graduates generally find interesting jobs in construction companies, consulting firms; contractors and subcontractors; engineering and architectural firms; residential home builders; land developers; public private and public services; transport departments; construction material testing companies; and suppliers of construction products, materials and equipment. There are huge variations in the specific job titles of our graduates, but they usually find employment as a project manager, project supervisor, project or field engineer *, contract administrator, security supervisor, project estimator, project planner, contractor or construction / product representative.

The mission of Construction Management Industry Advisory Council (IAB) shall be to advise, assist, support and advocate for the IUPUI Construction Management Program on matters related to student learning and teaching, program facilities, student activities , professional placement and professional practice.

The Construction Management IAB is actively involved in program and student activities, such as course reviews, wrap-up team mentors, and ASC competition teams. The Construction Management IAB also sponsors a career fair in the fall and spring.
