Manitowoc says CONNECT, which will be showcased at Bauma later this year, will advance fleet management, enhance sustainability, streamline service and maintenance for users, and improve crane connectivity through the easy-to-use platform. use running on smartphones, tablets and laptops. .

The new platform will initially be available on Potain tower cranes and Grove all-terrain cranes, with other product lines and brands to follow. CONNECT provides an optimized user experience, helping with setup, simplifying maintenance, providing driver assistance systems, and more. According to the company, owners get real-time access to services and information with just a few clicks of a screen.
For Grove, CONNECT will initially be available on GMK all-terrain cranes produced from 2023. It will be offered on all new models and available as a retrofit on cranes equipped with the CCS control system. Benefits include optimized troubleshooting due to real-time availability of crane information. This allows remote technicians to quickly understand the status of the crane, with all error codes displayed via the app. The remote service team can then run a root cause analysis and suggest potential solutions without travel delays or on-site physical assistance.
With simplified and expanded fleet utilization information, crane owners can adjust their operations to optimize resource utilization or strengthen preventive maintenance programs. Another benefit is the ability to help customers achieve their broader sustainability goals. The functionality of CONNECT means that trips to site to check cranes are reduced, as this will be done more remotely. Improved access to data also means that all necessary visits are optimized. For Potain tower cranes, CONNECT will be offered as an option on new top-slewing and self-erecting cranes. In addition, it can be retrofitted to all cranes equipped with CCS. With expanded capabilities available through CONNECT, Potain will discontinue production of its legacy CraneSTAR Diag tool.
CONNECT provides seamless integration between remote diagnostics, advanced analytics and fleet management to help owners dramatically increase fleet utilization while increasing uptime. On the jobsite, technicians and others can use local Wifi to connect to the crane via CONNECT. This allows them to easily view the operating system and examine performance data.
In the future, Manitowoc plans to integrate CONNECT into a project’s Building Information Management (BIM) model and enable the creation of digital twins of the crane. This feature will improve site optimization, site planning, monitoring and material flow, increasing the speed and quality of construction.
As with Grove GMK cranes, Potain owners with CONNECT will benefit from increased utilization through better preventative maintenance. Customers’ sustainability goals are also improved, thanks to the extended life of the cranes which should come through better management.
