The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a tender for the construction and management of a 350-bed multi-specialty hospital in Warje on a public-private partnership model, civic body officials said .
According to officials, private agencies have been brought in to construct the hospital at an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore and operate and maintain it for 30 years initially. Sanjeev Waware, Deputy Medical Officer of PMC, said: “The process of starting the largest multi-specialty hospital on the PPP model has begun. The land for the project is in the possession of the civic body,” said
The complete project includes fundraising through national or international financing, hospital design, construction, recruitment of doctors and other staff, supply of furniture, equipment, IT solutions, obtaining all accreditations and certifications and commissioning the hospital. The facility will have international standard medical technology and will also promote medical tourism, officials said.
The proposed hospital will provide specialist care in medicine and surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, plastic surgery, urology, nephrology, pulmonology, cardiology, hematology, ENT, diabetology, nutrition and dietetics, oncology, rheumatology, neurology, pathology, microbiology, radiology as well as dermatology, officials said. The hospital will also have radiology support services including CT scan, ultrasound, digital x-ray for orthopedics, renal unit including dialysis facility, labor wards, neonatal ICU and oncology services, including chemotherapy.
The PMC, which launched its medical school earlier this year, is also setting up a medical school in Raja Bahadur Mill Road. The city was one of the hardest hit in the country during the Covid-19 pandemic and had to bolster its health facilities with a temporary Covid jumbo hospital, in addition to special Covid units in various parts of the city. He had also modernized many municipal hospitals by starting intensive care facilities and setting up medical oxygen plants.
