The authorities used to spend 0.05% of the total project cost on quality testing of all project products such as cement concrete roads, asphalt works and others. Quality testing costs can be reduced with the help of this laboratory. Currently, HDSCL and other government agencies receive quality testing from private agencies; however, this will change and all quality testing will be performed at the HDSCL Quality Test Center.
The lab was set up at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, said CW Shakeel Ahmed, Managing Director of HDSCL. Currently, the lab will be used to test the quality of materials used in various government projects.
“We have applied for ISO certification, which we hope to receive in three months, and later in nine months of operation of the laboratory, we will receive another certification with which we can even start giving reports for private projects, which will help to generate revenue,” he said.
“With this lab, we can now test the cement used for the project in the standard consistency, initial final set time, strength test, compression time, among others,” he added.
